Donavan Pillai
Donavan Pillai qualified with a degree in Sport Science (Hons) Biokinetics at the University of Durban Westville, South Africa. He then went on to serve his internship at the University of Port Elizabeth where he also served as the Biokineticist for the UPE International Cricket Academy. Donavan also received a bursary from the United Cricket Board of South Africa where he presented a conference paper at the 2nd World Congress of Science and Medicine in Cricket (2003).
He has previously served as the Biokineticist for the Kwa-Zulu Natal Dolphins Cricket Union. Donavan Pillai has over 15 years experience in the Sport Science and Biokinetics field having worked amongst various sporting codes and populations.
He served as the Chairperson for the Biokinetics Association of South Africa – KZN region as well as Director of Marketing and later the Director of Public Sector for the Biokinetics Association of South Africa. Donavan also served on the organising committee of the Life Through Movement International Conference 2014. He served as a part –time lecturer and external examiner at the Biokinetics, Exercise and Leisure Sciences Department, University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Durban, South Africa.
He worked as the Head of Sport Science and Medicine for JSW Sport (India), The Inspire Institute of Sport (India) and Bengaluru FC (India)
Jeanne Grace
Dr. Jeanne Grace holds a doctorate postgraduate qualification specializing in Biokinetics with 15 years’ experience practicing as a Biokineticst and was the director of three Biokinetics practices. She is currently an Associate Professor at an academic institution and is actively involved in teaching and learning of Biokinetics students since 2009. Her responsibilities within the Biokinetics private practice and as an academic forms part of her expertise within these two fields.
As a past director of three Biokinetics practices, her responsibilities entailed the general management of these practices, legal compliance, financial management, HR and marketing. As Biokineticist, she prescribed safe and effective therapeutic exercise programs to individuals with medical disorders related to inadequate or absence of physical activity. She was also involved in sports performance/conditioning & rehabilitation of high-risk populations and sportsmen/women. In a multi-discipline team setting, she developed and implemented incapacity management and functional training programs for BHP Billiton.
She was also involved in physical health & employment screening of various departments of Eskom generation employees as well as developing and implementing worksite health promotion programs. She developed, implemented and presented various health promotion- and wellness talks & workshops. She managed contracts with multiple companies (British America tobacco, Eskom, OCSA, BHP Billiton, ABSA, Medscheme, Discovery, Momentum, Proffice, Anglo America Collieries). She rendered an executive health management screening/program at various companies.
She is still involved with the supervision of PhD and Master students with 7 Masters and 4 PhD students graduating under her guidance. She has 28 publications in national and international Scientific Journals and presented at several National and International Biokinetic scientific conferences. Her involvement in National and International Associations and committees like the HPCSA (Biokinetics), Biokinetics Association of South Africa (BASA – Director of Health Promotion) and International Institute for Health Promotion provide a good foundation within the field of Biokinetics. As the BASA Director of Health Promotion, her role was to promote health promotion amongst its members, medical aids, and various corporate and public stakeholders.
As a South African citizen and dually registered member of the HPCSA (Professional Board for Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Biokinetics), she is an experienced Biokineticst for over 24 years. Her area of specialisation as a practicing Biokineticist is consulting patients diagnosed with chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, arthritis, osteoporosis, heart diseases etc. and special populations like those who are pregnant, suffering from depression, children and the elderly.
Illonka Eayrs
Originally from Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape,, Illonka graduated with a BHSc Biokinetics from the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth. She completed her two years internship at the University's Centre at Du Randt and Grenfel Biokineticist Inc. Illonka worked as a Biokineticist at the Sports Academy and at The Back Clinic in Port Elizabeth. She works with a range of patients from chronic disease patients to orthopedics, rehabilitating injuries and maintenance. She is an enthusiastic individual that loves giving back and helping people in their daily lives with her profession. Her hobbies are reading, hockey and hiking.
